Harihareshwar, a weekend Konkan Trip
Mumbai to Harihareshwar: 200 Km
Route Details from Pune: Pune City – Chandani Chowk – Mulshi / Lavasa City-road – Pirangut – Paud – Shere – Jamgaon – Male – Mulshi Dam – Tamhini Ghat – Nive – Posco Steel Factory – Nizampur – Mangaon (here you reach Mumbai Goa National Highway) – take a left and immediate right towards Harihareshwar – Nigdi – Harihareshwar.
This small town in Konkan part of Maharashtra is known for Lord Harihareshwar Temple (Shiva / Shankar) and the clean Harihareshwar, Shrivardhan, and Diveagar Beaches. The three beaches together is a weekend trip from Pune and Mumbai.
Beach is the main attraction here
The beach at this destination is clean white water. You can book a resort very close to the beach and can see a great sea view from the resort. There are few resorts and restaurants at this place. When you circle the temple, you will see a honeycomb-like rock structure created by Sea waves (see picture). Sea Beach is beautiful and at walkable distance from small hotels in the town where you can stay. There are houses where stay and food arrangements are possible. The town is small and can accommodate limited guests, so avoid ‘public holidays’ while visiting this place.
Precaution: You can have a ‘pradakshina’ (meaning having a circular walk around the temple) which goes half way around the hill and from the rocky beach. Avoid this route in monsoon / rainy season.
