Sajjangad meaning ‘fort of Good People’ the place locate near the city of Satara in the Maharashtra State of India. It is the final resting place of Sant Ramdas. (King Shivaji’s guru) commonly known as Ramdas Swami, who was living here in the 17th Century. Currently, the trust manages all work. This place is a small hill fort and nice place for a day visit. You can see Shriram (God Ram) temple, Samarth Ramdas Swami Samadhi (resting place), Shri Hanuman temple. Also, you see there a small museum of things used by Ramdas Swami. Ramdas Swami narrated a spiritual book named as ‘Dasbodh’, which was written by his disciple Kalyan Swami. Dashbodh was written in a cave at a place called as ‘Shivthar Ghal’.
The trustees serve food (as prasad) for every visitor for lunch. Drinking water, washrooms and staying arrangement for a few people are also available on the hill.
Itcould be a one day trip but will be hectic. If you can make it 2 days, you can cover all the places. You can start with Wai Ganapati Temple located near Krishna river in the Wai town. The idol of Lord Ganesh (Ganapati) in this temple is 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide. Because of the large size, this Ganesh is also called as Dholya (fat) Ganapati or Mahaganpati. This tour is all through hills and ghat section.
Panchgani: A beautiful place for nature lovers and a hill station. You can take a halt at Panchgani for famous ‘Mapro Garden’ for refreshments & for buying ‘Mapro products’ (Jam, Jelly, Squash, etc). Panchgani table land (famous for horse riding), cave, garden are good places to visit. Many restaurants are available at Panchgani. Many good hotels are available for overnight stay. Cool place to visit during summer.

Drive on NH4 from Pune towards Kolhapur. After 100 kilometers take a right turn to Wai under a huge flyover. Keep going from Wai towards Panchgani and then the same road will take you to Mahabaleshwar. While entering Mahabaleshwar, you can take a boat ride in the famous Venna lake. Mahabaleshwar is famous hill station and you can visit many points (from where you can different valley views) and do some local fun shopping. Several hotels for an overnight stay and good restaurants are available. Strawberry is famous fruit over here and you can buy it in the local market almost throughout the year.
Venna Lake at Mahabaleshwar: Enjoy boating and horse riding here. Horse riding is available in Panchgani and many other places in Mahabaleshwar also.
If you bypass Mahabaleshwar and drive another 25 km on Poladpur Road, you can reach fort Pratapgad. Pratapgad fort has proper stairs to go till top and should not take more than a couple of hours to explore the fort. A historical place and a prime fort in the kingdom of King Shivaji. Vehicles go till the base of the fort and this is one of the easiest forts to visit. All these are famous picnic spots (crowded during School holidays) for people from Maharashtra and Gujarat. Take the Mumbai-Goa highway NH 17 via Revdanda or a State Transport bus to Murud. Roha railway station on the Konkan Railway line is the nearest station for traveling by Train.
Alibaug – Murud – Janjira can be a tour from Pune or Mumbai for a couple of days. Alibag is the nearest sea shore to people from Pune City. It is also convenient for people from Mumbai to reach this beach by multiple ways. If you have your vehicle, you can explore the surrounding area of Alibag.

Ferries ply from the Gateway of India to Mandwa beach, and Ferries regularly ply from Murud beach to Janjira Fort. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the fort. The Murud-Janjira or Janjira Fort is an island fort / Sea Fort (Jal Durg)built on a small island in the Arabian Sea. It is a marvel of architectural achievement. This is situated deep in the sea about 3 km from the small town of Murud. You need to take a ferry (boat) to reach to the fort from Murud beach (you can park your vehicle at the Murud beach).
Though the Arabian Sea surrounds the fort from all sides. The waves hit the Fort continuously, it’s stone walls continue to stand strong and tall. The walls are 40 feet high & the fort is spread over 22 acres, having 19 towers and a huge number of turrets, each of which had a cannon installed on it, some of which have remained intact. The fort had a history since the 15th century and got strengthened in the 17th century.The 26 rounded bastions (Buruj) of the fort are still intact.
